About The Position
Business Data Analyst
The Business Data Analyst plays a vital role in transforming data into meaningful insights that support our operations and the members we serve. Working as part of our Data and Business Analytics team, this position is involved in all areas of our data life cycle - from extracting data from source systems and building data pipelines with Apache Airflow, to analyzing data in our Google BigQuery data warehouse, creating ad-hoc reports, building PowerBI dashboards, and planning for our future Guidewire cloud migration.
This position is ideal for an experienced insurance professional with a passion for data and technology who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment where no two days are the same. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Guidewire data to uncover insights and trends that support business teams in making informed decisions.
- Create ad hoc reports for business teams, translating data requests into clear, actionable information.
- Develop and maintain PowerBI dashboards based on business needs, ensuring stakeholders have access to the metrics that matter most.
- Assist business teams in analyzing new and existing data, helping them understand patterns and opportunities within their areas.
- Collaborate with IT to maintain and enhance our data infrastructure, ensuring reliable access to quality data across the organization.
- Provide AI subject matter expertise for business projects, exploring opportunities to leverage artificial intelligence in support of our operations.
- Support Risk Management with dashboard and reporting tool development, delivering visualizations that enable proactive decision-making.
- Assist in data pipeline development for our Guidewire Cloud conversion, contributing to this important technical transition.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in a related field (or extensive relevant experience) with 3-5 years in data analysis, business intelligence, or a similar role.
- Intermediate knowledge of property and casualty insurance, with an understanding of how data supports underwriting, claims, and business operations.
- A genuine passion for data, technology, and continuous learning - you're excited about developing new skills and staying current with industry trends.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, solve problems, and translate complex data into meaningful insights.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including experience with formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation.
- SQL knowledge and experience querying databases is an asset.
- Familiarity with Guidewire systems and insurance software platforms is an asset.
- Python programming skills for data analysis and automation is an asset.
- PowerBI experience building dashboards and visualizations is an asset.
